Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is at the core of the center’s services. During this procedure, patients breathe pure oxygen in a medical hyperbaric chamber under elevated ambient pressure. In medical facilities, the pressure typically ranges between two and two and a half atmospheres. Under these conditions, additional oxygen can dissolve into the blood plasma and reach tissues that are inadequately supplied due to restricted blood flow. At the Euregio Aachen HBOT Center, HBOT is used to treat, among other conditions, late radiation damage following cancer therapies, chronic wounds, complex wound healing disorders, selected bone diseases, sudden hearing loss, and chronic autoimmune inflammations. The therapy is also increasingly being studied and successfully applied for post-COVID symptoms.
