Absolutely unique experience with Alex and his wife Elke.
We were there as a couple for a knifemaking course for outdoor knives - and were then actually alone with Alex and Elke. You are not dispatched here in a larger group, but it was a very private and almost familiar contact, which we liked very much.
You can choose from a wide range of materials for blade, handle and leather sheath. The size and shape of the blade, handle and sheath can also be specified according to personal preference.
For each piece, Alex knows exactly where it comes from. There is a lot of emphasis on regional materials or with clarified origin, as well as respectful treatment of animal material.
Prior knowledge is not required, you get the individual steps explained very well and also makes first only a test piece, before it goes to the actual blade - here you get then no half-finished blank, but really only a piece of flat steel, which is forged step by step in shape.
During the forging itself, you always get support from Alex in guiding the steel over the anvil. To forge completely alone you can not learn in a 1-day course, that should hopefully be aware of everyone.
The knife surfaces are deliberately not ground smooth at the end and thus get a very personal touch, because the own hammer blows and the material still remain recognizable. You get an absolutely unique piece made of special and high-quality materials, and that in pure handwork up to sewing your own knife sheath.
Alex's wife Elke also takes care of food and drink. We felt very comfortable at all times and can highly recommend the course!
