Before founding SESEN AI, Berkan spent 15+ years in senior technical and leadership roles at three global investment banks. At UBS, he was Head of Algorithmic Execution & AI, leading the development of an in-house AI trading platform across equities and fixed income. At JP Morgan Asset Management, he was Senior Quantitative Portfolio Manager, where he built ML-powered thematic investment funds that scaled to over $2B in assets under management. At Citigroup, he co-led the global data analytics group for the Markets Quantitative Analysis department.
His academic research at Oxford produced a clinical decision support system for lung cancer care, published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface and PLOS ONE. He was a visiting researcher at Stanford University's Biomedical Informatics Research Centre and holds an MSc in Biomedical Engineering (Distinction) from Oxford.

Berkan is also co-founder of Tinie.ai, a digital health company whose product Recallify won the UKABIF Innovation Award and graduated from the BGV accelerator. He co-founded A.I.M. Research Lab, a non-profit fostering academic-industry collaboration on peer-reviewed AI research, and is an active startup mentor at Techstars and AI Forge.
Awards include the UKABIF Innovation Award, Banking Technology Awards UK, American Financial Technology Awards, and the Citigroup Global Progress Award. Publications include book chapters in Wiley Finance, co-invented US patent applications for ML-based investment methodologies, and peer-reviewed papers in journals including the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, PLOS ONE, and Computers & Chemical Engineering.
