Total botch on jewelry repair!
I had handed in a corded gold chain for repair. When I dropped it off, I received neither a receipt nor any other proof of ownership - already a first sign of unprofessionalism! I was told that the goldsmith would contact me to see if the chain was repairable at all and how much the repair would cost - after 2 weeks, still no one had contacted me. When I called again, they only talked about the cost, not the type of repair. On receipt of the chain came the shock: the corded area was simply squeezed together with flat-nose pliers without regard to the cord twist. A spot of about 7mm (not insignificant in a chain) is flat, rigid, conspicuous in the flow of the chain, and to make matters worse, uncleanly worked, because individual struts stick out and can get caught in clothing! A loveless, unprofessional job that made the chain even more broken rather than fixing it! I will have to completely cut out the botched part and have another goldsmith reassemble it!
Thanks for the extra cost, the emotional upset and the centimeter of lost gold! Absolutely not recommended for treasured and fine jewelry!
