I run 5Ks and half-marathons, so I know how raw heel/Achilles pain can feel. a few months ago I started limping after every run, especially when doing hill repeats. I booked in with Dr. Kalika because I’d read about focused Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) + diagnostic ultrasonography at NYDNRehab for Achilles tendon issues. In our first session he used high-resolution ultrasound to see exactly which part of my tendon and surrounding tissue were damaged, then did ESWT under ultrasound guidance. also I got gait analysis + motion capture to see how I was over-loading one side. they tweaked my running form and gave exercises to correct foot-strike and strengthen the tendon. I know many runners ignore the pain (like I did) thinking it’ll get better on its own. If you have heel or Achilles problems, going for something like ESWT combined with real gait analysis might be the thing that finally makes a difference.
