Richmond Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is a privately owned pediatric dental and orthodontic practice serving families throughout the Greater Richmond, Virginia area. We have five offices across Henrico, Hanover, and Chesterfield counties:
...
Short Pump, West End on Gaskins Road, Mechanicsville, Midlothian, and Patterson Avenue in Richmond.
We are a bi-specialty practice, which means our specialty-trained pediatric dentists and our orthodontists work inside the same organization. Families who start with us as infants can move into braces or Invisalign years later without transferring records to a new office or starting the relationship over. Our roots in Richmond go back over 100 years, and we have stayed independent instead of joining a corporate dental group.
Pediatric dentistry
Our children's dentists see patients starting at age one, when the first tooth comes in. Services include routine dental exams and cleanings, digital x-rays, dental sealants, fluoride treatment, tooth-colored fillings, extractions, space maintainers, frenectomy for tongue-tie and lip-tie, and same-day care for dental emergencies like a knocked-out tooth or a broken front tooth. For children who need extra support, we offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation, and we have real experience treating kids with autism, sensory sensitivity, and developmental or behavioral challenges. Dr. Bill Dahlke holds hospital affiliations at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, VCU Medical Center, and Bon Secours St. Mary's.
Orthodontics
Our orthodontists treat children, teens, and adults. We follow the American Association of Orthodontists recommendation that children have a first orthodontic evaluation around age seven, when early problems with crowding, crossbite, or jaw growth are easiest to guide. Treatment options include traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, palatal expanders, and retainers. We correct overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, spacing, and crowding. Orthodontic consultations are free, and we offer virtual smile assessments for parents who want an opinion before coming in.
Insurance, Medicaid, and payment
We accept most major dental insurance plans and offer flexible in-house payment plans for orthodontic treatment. Medicaid is accepted at all four of our pediatric dentistry locations through Cardinal Care Smiles, formerly known as Smiles For Children, along with DentaQuest and Doral. Finding a pediatric dentist in the Richmond area who takes Medicaid is difficult for a lot of families, and it is a commitment we have kept.
Community
We sponsor Connor's Heroes, a Richmond nonprofit supporting families of children with cancer, and our doctors have been recognized as Virginia Living Top Dentists. Dr. Dahlke has served three terms as president of the Virginia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
