Overall, we enjoyed the trip very much.
We were impressed by the friendliness and politeness of the people as well as the interesting and varied landscape. We were particularly impressed by the Vietnamese cuisine, regardless of whether we ate in a 4 or 5 star restaurant (you can take it for granted) or in one of the numerous "street kitchens", most of which we made use of.
The choice of hotels was excellent from our point of view, we would have liked to stay another night at the Coco Riverside Lodge.
The cruise in HaLong Bay will remain unforgettable, the "quality" of the ship was excellent all round - thank you for this choice.
Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the imperial city of Hue - which was at the top of our expectations - due to a sudden flood. In view of what the inhabitants had to go through again and again, this is not really worth mentioning.
I only mention it because we were very grateful for the prompt response (rebooking to another hotel and an alternative sightseeing program) and were also very positively surprised. That doesn't happen every day. THANK YOU
We were very impressed by Chu Chi, this visit and also a conversation with a contemporary witness away from the professional guides was one of the highlights for me personally, if not THE highlight.
(Note: We did not, of course, take advantage of the shooting program offered by the site (not the tour operator). In view of the original location on the one hand and the atrocities of the Vietnam War, which I am still aware of, and the current events in Ukraine and Israel on the other, we find it more than strange).
The only fly in the ointment was the tour guide. Apart from the two ladies (the one on the first day in Hanoi and Ms. Minh - replacement program), the information content was rather poor, especially about the art and religious history/culture, so we felt that we urgently needed more training.
We were actually not badly prepared and in the last few days I had the opportunity to pick up some information from a group of English-speaking tour guides who were present at the same time, so that we were able to leave the cultural site reasonably well informed.
But again, the tour guides were reliable, "above"punctual, very (remarkably) FRIENDLY AND CARED ABOUT US.
I admired the drivers of our vehicles. A Central European would despair with this volume of traffic on two-wheelers (Vietnam has almost 100 million inhabitants and an estimated 30 million two-wheelers, which are often used for more than 2 people or as a means of transporting bulky goods).
despair. And yet everything runs smoothly!
